All applicants are required to have completed all necessary immunizations and/or tests in order to apply to the Nursing Program. Applicants are strongly encouraged to begin the Hepatitis B series immediately as the vaccine schedule and test for seropositivity takes approximately 6- 7 months to complete. Background Check and Drug Screen. Important: Any prior conviction of a misdemeanor or felony may influence eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse. A flagged background check or drug screen may also prohibit entrance and/or participation in the nursing program. Applicants with prior convictions are required to contact the Director of Nursing for confidential advisement and planning prior to applying to the program and visit the California Board of Registered Nursing website for general information. LVN to RN Update Licensed Vocational Nurses will now be considered for both the spring semester and fall semesters, allowing them to apply at both application periods. If the minimum number of qualified applications are not received during the application periods, then there will be no offer of the LVN- RN Step- up Program. The process to fill the class can take several weeks. Students wishing to apply to the program must apply for an entry date which does not conflict with the completion of the program currently enrolled in. ADMISSION PROCESS Admission to the program is based upon the California State Chancellor's multi- criteria screening tool, Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS V) score, degrees, work experience, life experiences, and second language proficiency.
